About Johnathan Maphilke
Jonathan Maphilke, a native of South Africa, oversees the daily operations of Faithways Church, which is an organization that serves as a community cornerstone in Pimville, South Africa. The church doles out food to young orphans and homeless children living in the local squatter camps and takes up the slack in the sparse social services available by helping those in need.
Faithways Church initiated a program to provide food to the local orphans of Pimville in 1980 in response to their desperate situation. At that time, the program was started and managed by Reverend Siphu Benghu. Paul Ekon, an international businessman born in South Africa, joined and supported Siphu Bengu in the feeding plan. Paul Ekon provided necessary financing to create soups kitchens and to pay the salaries of workers in four different locations. More than 400 orphans and homeless children lined up at those centers for food handouts each day.
Following the death of Reverend Siphu Benghu, Jonathan Maphilke took responsibility for the feeding project. The organization has evolved to include nurseries and preschools and also aids ex-inmates released from prison to establish a more positive life in the community.
Through Jonathan Maphilke’s leadership, the church organization raises funds to continue the worthwhile community projects. The focus of the organization’s work includes counseling and support for both HIV and Aids patients as well as a program aimed at rehabilitation. A new direction involves building another center that will offer skills development, moral lessons and continue the feeding program for children.
The organizers at Faithways Church, who are trying to receive the status of an official charity for their work, continues to reach out to the community in important ways but especially feeding the poor local children who would otherwise go hungry. Jonathan Maphilke’s goal for the organization is also to create a community that will be self-sustaining through moral support, early childhood development centers and social aid.
